1999.04.29 - Renegade Airwaves - Mystical, Lush and L Natural - Ninja Turtle

This was the night that a bunch of the Grimsby crew took some acid that we had obtained that was on Ninja Turtle blotter paper, hence the name of the tape. We arranged it at school that day and we all agreed the plan was to take that and listen to the show. Sometimes you roll the dice with radio shows. You never know who is going to be on, or if you'll be particularly into the style they're playing. Especially when you're taking brain resetting drugs.

Well on this night we got lucky, because this Renegade Airwaves tape contains some fucking awesome tunes, some epic mixing and some good MCing as well.

I think this was also the first time that I ever heard the Moving Fusion tracks. "The Beginning" gets 2 plays and 2 rewinds in the space of about 45 minutes. That's gotta be a record. Awesome track. It blew me away, along with everyone else it seems.

I can remember laying on my bed, listening to the show with my headphones on, tripping on the turtle juice, loving the music while the tape deck was rolling downstairs. Luckily, I was armed with the 110 minute tapes which were actually more like 115s so I was able to get the entire sets of Mystical and Lush. Stayed up until I don't remember how late. Unfortunately, I couldn't go downstairs at 2AM to put in a new tape or I would have been in total shit. The next day I was listening to this tape on the walk to school, and I ended up fast forwarding to listen to "The Beginning" again before I had to go to class. I saw the crew again that morning and the vibe was the same, everyone was like "last night, what!"
