1999.06.13 - The Prophecy - Shabba D & TC Izlam Night - Side A (Mike's Tape)

A good set from Marcus, especially if you like Breakbeat Era (Marcus drops 3 tracks right in a row at the start).  

The summer of 99 was peak Breakbeat Era (a collaboration between Roni Size, DJ Die & vocalist Leoni Laws) and I totally got caught up in it, buying the Our Disease/Rancid CD Single (with remixes) and the full album, but by the fall, pretty much everyone was burnt out from Break Beat Era, and in retrospect, I'm not really sure what all of the fuss was about.  

There's a funny moment where Marcus spins a Red Man/Roni Size jungle remix and the song is so short the record actually runs out before he has time to mix in the next track!

Marcus also spins a ton of Ray Keith tracks, and even a rare Grooverider track.  

Grooverider was one of the few jungle/dnb artists (along with DJ Rap) to sign to the Sony/Columbia vanity label, Higher Ground.  DJ Rap was one of the original jungle DJ's on the One in the Jungle show, the original, non pirate jungle show on the BBC that certainly made shows like The Prophecy possible.
